There are four things any reader considering my books should know about me.

The first is I’m an avid and eclectic reader. My mom and aunt taught me to read before I started elementary school and I’ve been in love with books since then. I mean, I never went anywhere without a book, still don’t.

The second thing is I write what I love to read--fast-paced action tales filled with gut-wrenching conflict, convoluted plots and a touch of humor. I like for my characters to grow and develop as the book grows and develops.

The third thing is I’m an idealist and optimist and I don’t apologize for either. The world is an endlessly fascinating, wondrous place and this is the best time ever to be alive. Don’t dismiss this as drivel; think about it. At what other time could a little boy or girl grow up to be an astronaut? Scientific, technological and medical breakthroughs occur daily and there are no problems without solutions.

Regarding that last I believe it is the duty of every thinking human being to take a stand for what they believe is right. And if they see a problem they should think about it and try to fix it.

The fourth thing is, before I got married and settled down, I lived an adventurous life. As a child I spent a lot of time with my half-Blackfoot grandfather, hunting and fishing and learning the woods. I sneaked off to explore dangerous old caved-in mines and climbed trees till the branches bent and rode them back and forth in the wind. The thrill of adventure is awesome.

In my late teens and twenties I turned to spelunking in the awesome limestone caverns of Missouri and Arkansas, scuba diving and sky diving anywhere I could, taking extended solo backpacking trips in mountain and desert wilderness areas, free climbing, winter mountaineering, cross country skiing, white-water rafting, and flying ultralight aircraft.

I hunted subs in the Navy during the Vietnam War; rode roundups as a ranch hand in the Colorado Rockies; searched for lost treasure and prospected for gold. I was once “lost” for 10 days in the jungles of Sarawak, on the island of Borneo.

I like to think these experiences give my writing a unique flavor.

I’m in my 50’s now and I’ve slowed down considerably (writer-speak for I got older and fatter). Now, I enjoy attending mountain man rendezvous, taking hikes in the Colorado Rockies, wildlife watching, amateur astronomy, and of course, reading and writing.

Above all else now my goal is to write fun to read stories that give my readers a sense of the possible. My latest book, with my co-author Duane Lindsay, is titled How I Got Published: Famous Authors Tell How In Their Own Words covers the possibility of getting published.

I’ve also published innumerable internet articles on subjects ranging from dealing with bullys at school to tracking wildlife, from con games to the impossibility of intelligent life arising on Earth (though I hope some day to be found wrong on that).

I invite you to visit my website, email your comments on my books. I do my best to respond to all email. Until then read on and enjoy and good luck!
